Bodies focuses on the architecture of the body; the articulation of joints, the angles of crossed limbs, how gravity works on relaxed forms. The pieces are constructed from various lengths of wood connected by moveable wooden hinged joints that shift unpredictably. The lines of wood are composed somewhat spontaneously, and the final overall form is largely unplanned. A large part of the making of a piece is exploring the possibilities for and limitations of movement during construction. The hinged pieces feel alive, forcing me to move in careful and awkward ways until the moment when each piece falls into its own unique, precariously balanced position.
